AA coffee pot coin

Addiction is a disease of the body mind and spirit. AA and other 12 step programs have the best success rates for recovery, mainly focusing on the mental/spiritual aspects of recovery. There is a major lack in guidance for the physical recovery aspect. Other than physical abstinence from the drug, no significant physical guidance is offered. (Coffee & cookies anyone?)

Even back in the 1930’s, Bill W and the original AA’s encouraged seeking outside help in addition to utilizing the 12 step program of recovery.

“God has abundantly supplied this world with fine doctors, psychologists, and practitioners of various kinds. Do not hesitate to take your health problems to such persons.” ~ page 133, Alcoholics Anonymous

For example, most recovering alcoholics do not know that Bill Wilson greatly benefited from vitamin therapy for his depression, and that later in his life Bill was advocating for research into nutritional supplementation to give recovering alcoholics an advantage based on biochemical deficiencies related to alcoholism.

Today, several decades later, there is an abundance of outside resources available to support and enhance recovery, in all aspects including body, mind, and spirit. Bringing awareness through researched articles and holistic resources specific to the needs of recovering alcoholics and addicts, HealthInRecovery.com seeks to help you navigate a course to a healthier happier sobriety!
